Middleton client stores: Fiona Cadwallader.
31st May 2017
You could call Fiona Cadwallader’s entry for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show – which has been awarded a Silver Medal – the fruit of a lifetime’s study and work.
Middleton client Fiona studied English Literature at Trinity College, Cambridge and took further courses in Interior Design, Horticulture and Fine Art before establishing her own interiors and garden design consultancy in 1999.
Her debut entry in the ‘Artisan Garden’ category is called ‘The Poetry Lover’s Garden’. It is inspired by ‘This Lime Tree Bower My Prison’, the romantic poem written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1797 and showcases not just Fiona’s horticultural vision but also three bespoke sculptural pieces designed by her especially for the show.
“The Poetry Lover’s Garden presents a tranquil retreat in which to sit outside in the late afternoon sunshine reading poetry to the sound of water,” says Fiona.
“The garden echoes the beautiful sentiment expressed by Coleridge’s poem, that an appreciation for nature means you can find natural wonders everywhere.”
“The Poetry Lover’s Garden combines formal structure with relaxed planting using both modern and traditional materials. It alludes to a world beyond while creating a meditative space in which nature, the poem and the imagination come together.”
“I’m thrilled to have won a Silver Medal for my first ever garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show – and so pleased to have been able to combine a variety of personal interests in one place.”
Once the Chelsea Flower Show ends on Monday 29 May, the Poetry Lover’s Garden will be available to buy, complete, or in part, with the opportunity to purchase structural elements such as the the lime trees or the bespoke stainless steel water feature, gates and chaise longue.
